May Photo Tour Recap
I’ve recently begun hosting photo tours in west Texas and southern New Mexico. Through these events I hope to share the exhilaration that comes from basking in the beauty of what I often refer to as my big backyard. The tours are a great way for photographers who are at different stops on the journey of mastering the craft to come together in kinship.
With each tour I try to offer participants an opportunity to spend time capturing local history, culture and character within fleeting moments of perfect golden light and star filled skies. On May 18th and 19th I had the privilege of hosting a group of Texans who wanted to step away from the beaten path and chase magnificent morning and evening light. They were able to capture gorgeous scenes along the Guadalupe and Cornudas Mountains, as well as pronghorn racing along Otero Mesa and the hay fields of Dell Valley, scaled quail scurrying through draws, and blooming cholla. they witnessed the beauty and hardships that endure in the high country of the Chihuahuan Desert. We traveled across Crow Flat, Otero Mesa and the western escarpment of the Guadalupe Mountains chasing light and shadow and immersing ourselves In the rich history of the area from exploring remnants along the Butterfield Stage route, to the sacred artistry of the native Americans among the rocks and crevices on Otero Mesa. It was an opportunity for participants to go off the grid and transport themselves back in time. Given the short window of time we moved at a rapid pace and weathered the dry, dusty conditions that lend to the contrast and beauty of the area, but a good time was had by all!
Many thanks to the Jones and Barker families for allowing me to share their beautiful vistas and history with the group – your generosity is appreciated beyond words!
Special thanks to Bill Morgette for bringing his chuck box and whipping up some delicious recipes for the group.
Finally, Cash, Katy, Ken, Kelly and Jill thanks to you for traveling along the dusty trail with me, you all are true adventurers and all around good people. It was a pleasure to spend time with all of you – may our paths cross many more times!
